Cranio-Sacral Therapy
Cranio-Sacral Therapy is an exceptionally gentle yet powerful therapy in which to create and maintain a healthy balanced state on all levels. It is suitable for everyone as it's so gentle including babies and children, the elderly and in any acutely painful situation. This is a comfortable and relaxing form of treatment that is non-invasive.
The applications of Cranio-Sacral Therapy are wide - from colic and ear infections in babies, through learning difficulties, behavioural disorders and asthma in children, to migraine, back pain, menstrual disorders, emotional stress and the after effects of major accidents, traumas, injuries, meningitis or other serious illnesses. Ultimately, Cranio-Sacral Therapy can be beneficial in almost any situation because it is concerned with enhancing health, strength and vitality at the very core of our being, thereby stimulating the body's own natural potential.
Treatment often brings a feeling of deep relaxation and warmth, as it gently works on the physical, emotional and energetic levels to bring homeostasis, encouraging a sense of balance, calm and integrated state of well-being, truly incorporating the philosophy of body, mind and spirit.
Cranio-Sacral Therapy involves a patient lying down fully clothed in a quiet and peaceful environment. Treatment involves a gentle touch of the practitioners hands, both for diagnosis and treatment, which contact may be taken up at the Cranium (head), Sacrum (tail bone) or any part of the body as appropriate. By tuning in in this way, the practitioner can identify the pulls, twists, tensions, and restricted movements that have accumulated as a result of accidents, injuries, disease and stresses throughout life, thereby blocking the body's inherent potential to heal itself. The release of these restrictions restores the free flow of the body's inherent vitality, enhancing the body's natural ability to promote and maintain health.
What is the difference between Cranio-Sacral Therapy and Cranial Osteopathy?
Cranio-Sacral therapists study cranial work exclusively. Most Cranio-Sacral Therapy courses last two years. Cranial osteopaths train initially in osteopathy, a more mechanical approach, and then do postgraduate training in cranial work of variable length.
